Dealing with existing images and working with them in Photoshop was the primary reason for me enrolling in this course. The projects leading up to this assignment provided me the Photoshop tools required for the portrait component of the project—to focus on post-processing rather than familiarizing myself with features of my camera.

Digital Media 201: The “Scratch” Project

Here are the 3 compositions comprising Project 3, The Scratch Things.

How were they different than working with continuous tones?

I again had difficulty dealing with the geometric shapes I wished to fill and illustrate as did Kandinski on some of his work. All things being equal, I ended up using the text tool to create massive letters that I then positioned as I would have had I used a line tool in Illustrator (that I don’t own).

Digital Media 201: The “Collage” Project

Here are the 2 compositions that compose Project 2, The Collage.

This was quite an interesting project, and the learning curve quite steep. IThis project was significant because of my learning how to mask areas from bleeding into other layers. The steps are listed here for future reference: begin with 2 layers (e.g. “photo” and “window”) and duplicate “window” (for safe keeping).
