"He joined the US Army in 1865, served in the civil war as Adjutant Co., Mounted Rifles WD Post #434 until Lee's surrender. Later in charge of Government Plantation and hospital at Buckingham, VA.
while at LaSalle Fishing in a boat a storm came up and he was nearly carried over the Falls but managed to make a landing on Goad Island. William studies for Medicine before he moved to a lumber camp in Pennsylvania, as there were no facilities he organized a church and sunday school where he preached as lay preacher while there he started butchering for the camp. He was 3 times burned out and once by a flood. He was once struck in the face by a broken emery wheel and nearly died. At the age of 74 he fell from 2nd story of a house on which he was working breaking several ribs from which he never recovered." 5
