Paul Reese wrote: Just noticed that a William H Stahl is on the 1900; Census Place: Dazey, Barnes, North Dakota; Roll: 1226; Page: 3B; Enumeration District: 0004 with your Walter Hoster and his wife Hilda. That William Stahl b. June 1828 was in on the 1860 census in the household of William Stahl b. ca 1803 and his wife Elizabeth Reese Stahl and of course with Christina Stahl who later married Walter Hoster.
This person William Stahl b. 1828 is a mystery.

Is he a younger brother of William Stahl b. 1803?
Is he a son of William Stahl b.1803 by a previous marriage?

Hello fellow researcher. I’m taking you up on your website's offer to “hear” from other Stahls (hopefully those married to them). The Stahl line I’m following begins William (John) (Charles) Stahl (b. abt. 1803) and his wife, Elizabeth Reese (b. 1813). Their daughter, Christina, is my wife’s great grandmother and is listed in the 1855 New York State Census <https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/K67T-TGJ>

In this document, Christina is the Granddaughter of John Stahl (head of household) living in Lockport, Niagara, New York and who includes in his household Christina’s father, Wm. Stahl.

I’m researching Christina’s grandfather, John Stahl, most likely the one in Wm’s household in the 1860 Fed. Census: "John Stahl, 86, retired farmer b. Pennsylvania.” That makes his birth c. 1774 because he was also listed as 81 in the 1855 Census (linked above). There are Stahls in several PA counties, but none are tight fits. Close, however. You mentioned having information about Stahl “branches” that might shed light on our family. Thanks in advance for your help.

Another John Stahl (b. 1776) married Elizabeth Mentzer (b. 1775)
