LAST RITES FOR A. W. GUSTIN, KEELER PIONEER

WELL KNOWN FARMER AND MERCHANT WAS LAID TO REST LAST FRIDAY

DEATH CAME SUDDENLY

Victim Had Been About His Farm During the Day and Evening Before His Death

Funeral rites for Arthur W. Gustin, 71, veteran business man and farmer of Keeler, were held at his home in Keeler village last Friday afternoon, and were largely attended by the people of the countryside among whom he had lived for over sixty years.

The services were conducted by Rev. Frederick N. White of Centerville and Rev. Elmer Vaughen of the Keeler M. E. church. The Masoniic funeral service was conducted at the grave of Florida Lodge, F. & A. M., of Hartford, of which he was a member.

Mr. Gustin's death came suddenly at 9:45 on the evening of August 16. Although suffering from a broken ankle and compelled to go on crutches the past few weeks, he had otherwise been in his usual health and had been about his farm on the evening of his death.

Mr. Gustin was born in Cohocton, N. Y., on May 9, 1856. At the age of 8 years he came with his parents, the late William and Eleanor Gustin, to the township of Keeler, in this county. With the exceptions of a few years in other parts of the country, Mr. Gustin had since made Keeler his home.

He entered into business in connection with his farming activities, and for many years conducted a general store in Keeler. He retired from the store several years ago and had since devoted his entire time to his farming interests.

As a young man he was married to Florence Hill, of Keeler, who died a few years later. He later married Miss Ada McMillan of Keeler, and to them three children were born, two sons, Niel and Richard, and a daughter, Helen who survive him. He is also survived by a widow of a third marriage which occurred in June, 1925.

The high respect in which Mr. Gustin was held by the neighbors and townsfolk among whom he had lived the greater part of his life was attested by the large attendance at the funeral rites and by the profusion of floral tributes.

In civic affairs he had long been recognized as one of the well informed leaders of his community. Up to the time of his death he maintained a keen interest in current events and the great changes being wrought in this rapidly advancing age.

His body was laid to rest in the Keeler cemetery, within sight of the home where he resided for many years, and where lie many of the pioneers of one of the most historic townships in the county.
